Privacy Policy

Effective

This policy explains what Movara collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to Movara on Android and iOS, the Story Engine studio, and the Movara website at movara.world.

Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to run your account, deliver stories, and process purchases.

Account information
You sign in with Google, which gives us your email address, display name, and profile picture. We never see or store a password. You can change your display name and picture in Account Details, and a picture you choose from your photo library is uploaded to us only when you pick one.
Purchase information
Subscription and in-app purchase status — what you bought, when it renews, and whether it is active. Payments are taken by Google Play or the Apple App Store and handled for us by RevenueCat. We never receive or store your card number.
Reading and usage activity
Which series you open, the choices you tap, how far you got in a story, what you save to My List, what you heart or share, and what you search for. This is what lets a story resume where you left it and lets us see which stories work.
Device and diagnostic data
App version, operating system, device model, language, a per-install app identifier, and crash and performance logs. Approximate IP-derived region may appear in server logs.

A story turn is either written in advance by its creator or generated by an AI model — which model is the creator’s choice, and Movara is not tied to any one provider. When a turn is generated, what we send the provider is the story state and the choice you made, never your name, email, or account identifiers. There is no free-text chat in Movara: you advance a story by tapping the options it offers.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, health data, or the contents of your device. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in across devices.
  • To generate the next turn of a story from the choice you made.
  • To deliver stories, remember your progress, and restore your choices.
  • To grant and restore access to subscriptions and in-app purchases.
  • To fix crashes, diagnose problems, and measure which features are used so we can improve the app.
  • To send service messages you cannot opt out of, such as receipts, security alerts, and material changes to this policy.
  • To detect fraud and abuse, and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not use your reading activity to build advertising profiles, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that operate parts of Movara for us, under contracts that limit them to processing it on our instructions.

AI model providers
Generate story turns from the story state and the choice you tapped, where a series uses AI generation. Which provider handles a series depends on the model its creator selected, and providers change over time; none of them receive account identifiers.
Sentry
Collects crash reports, error traces, and screen-transition performance data so we can fix what breaks.
Google
Verifies your identity when you sign in with your Google account, under Google’s own privacy policy.
RevenueCat
Manages subscription and purchase entitlements. Receives a purchase identifier, your app user ID, and store receipt data.
Google Play and the Apple App Store
Process payments and issue receipts under their own privacy policies. We receive the purchase outcome, not your payment details.
Our cloud hosting and database providers
Store account, catalog, and progress data on our own infrastructure. They have no independent right to use it.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to enforce our terms, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

How long we keep it

  • Account and reading data: kept while your account is active, and for as long as we need it to provide the service.
  • Purchase and transaction records: kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically seven years.
  • Crash and diagnostic logs: kept up to 90 days, then deleted or aggregated so they no longer identify you.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Residents of the EU/UK have these rights under the GDPR; residents of California have comparable rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the email address on your account. We will verify your request against your account and respond within the time the applicable law allows. You may also turn off analytics and push notifications in your device settings, and manage subscriptions in the Google Play or App Store account you bought them with.

To close your account entirely, see Delete Your Movara Account at movara.world/delete-account. It gives the steps, what we delete, and what we are required to keep.

How we protect your information

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS and encrypted at rest on our hosting provider. Sign-in uses Google’s OAuth flow, so no password of yours ever reaches us, and your session token is held in the device’s secure keystore. Access to production systems is limited to staff who need it and is protected by multi-factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; if a breach affects your information we will notify you and the relevant regulators as the law requires.

Children's privacy

Movara is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete the account and its data.

International transfers

Your information may be processed in any country where we or our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your own. Where we transfer personal information out of the EU/UK, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices change. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and continued use after that means you accept the updated policy.
